of Gaia Book Cover Book cover design for James Lovelock’s ‘The Revenge of Gaia’, the best, yet most disturbing book I have read so far on global warming. Basically, he states that sustainable development is not an option and that we need to implement a form of sustainable retreat. One quote from the book reads ‘Our future is like that of the passengers on a small pleasure boat sailing quietly above the Niagara falls, not knowing that the engines are about to fail…’ Concept Gaia is the theory of the living Earth. It is a form of post-modern science like Chaos Theory that can only really be understood intuitively from an holistic viewpoint. I wanted to create a solution that ambiguously touched on this theme. Through the style and process I wanted to try and subvert common global warming graphic clichés and offer people a bit of the reality of the world we’re living in. It is designed to look like a corporate logo and was created completely on a photocopier. I wasted a good two full bin bags of paper through its production. |
